Broadcasting again
It’s been years; many years since I last posted an update. Life, work, procrastination, trying to be perfect; the reasons are never-ending.
But here I am again! What happened? A kid and AI. :)
My son is now almost 10 months old, and one side-effect of having a
child, is that you start becoming a child yourself. But not any child,
the child you used to be. Writing was a part of my younger
self, so in a way it emerged again.
But it is not just that. I cannot say I am enjoying the current
internet, everything gathered together in a short selection of social
networks. I prefer the old way and the odd blog. People writing
because they need to write. Not caring about likes or even
comments. Discovering small, arcane corners of the net. I want my son
to experience that. Also I want to leave him something, if he is ever
interested learning more about his old man. There are things you share
in person, and things you can only share from your small corner in the
internet.
The other reason is AI. I am a believer. Work is plenty as always and free time is never enough for personal projects anymore. You can break an 80-hour project in 10 8-hour days, but you cannot break it in 80 1-hour days. That’s the reason I put a stop on my personal projects. Thankfully software engineering work gives me more than enough of my project-addiction dose. But still, personal projects are something else. AI gives me the speed to make them viable again. It is not just this website, which I converted from a non-maintained version of wordpress to hugo, or my server, which hadn’t been updated in the last 8-10 years (hardened Gentoo just kept going), and AI made the migration tolerable. It is so much more. It will change the world and I want to be in the front seat. What we dreamed of as children, is here. Yes, we got a glimpse behind the mirror, so it might not be as impressive as when we did not know anything about it beyond the science fiction, but it is here nevertheless.
Alas, two blogs are more than I can handle, so I merged Within Specifications (an experimental, engineering-only blog) to Web Performance (my main blog), and I am keeping the Within Specifications name for now. :D
I am not sure how often I will write, but here we are to find out! My blog (the theme) might be vibe coded / agentic engineered, but my content will remain human produced. AI makes it easier to accept our flaws and limitations, and maybe that’s the key to write more often.
Thank you for visiting,
Marios
